Frequently Asked Questions - Registration/Billing

Questions about the Registration and Billing process.

There is a long and sundried list of things that go into producing an event; be it a 5K run, half marathon, duathlon, or a triathlon.  The following list is not comprehensive, and every event is different, but it should give you an idea of where the money you spend for an event goes:

  • Port o potties
  • Venue fees
  • Police
  • Staff
  • T-shirts
  • Awards
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Food
  • Flyers
  • Usat sanction
  • Insurance certificates
  • Medical staff
  • Maintenance people
  • Park staff for state parks
  • Propane
  • Life guards
  • Specific signs for event
  • Water testing at lab
  • Swim caps
  • Bicycle stickers
  • Race announcer
  • Volunteer t-shirts
  • Volunteer food
  • Lodging if necessary
  • Fuel

All of that being said, we try really hard to keep the prices of our events down.  We are athletes ourselves, so we understand the pain of entrance fees for events.  If you want to help us control the rising cost of producing events, volunteer at an event - it reduces the amount of paid staff that we need at the event!

The "Age Group" and "Fat Tire" are two different divisions.

We reserve the Fat Tire division for anyone who is doing the event with a tire with big fat wide tires (i.e. a mountain bike).  Those that compete on a mountain bike are at a distinct disadvantage competing against the ultra-thin racing tires found on modern road bikes; so we created a division just for those fine folks who want to tackle our courses on mountain bikes.  If you are competing with a "Fat Tire" then it is your choice which division to compete in, Fat Tire or Age Group.  Everyone in the Fat Tire division must have fat tires on their bicycle.  The Fat Tire division only awards the top thre athletes male/female.  That is a total of 6 awards.

The Age Group division is your basic "Open" division.  The awards are broken down by age group.  Age groups are assigned by your age at the end of the year and occur in five year increments (i.e. 20-24).  This Age Group division has the most awards.  The top 3 male/female are awarded in each age group.  This means that this division generally has 72 awards!!

So there you have it.  The Fat Tire division is our attempt to try to even out the competition for the participants who compete with mountain bikes.

All online signup services charge a processing fee for credit card and service fee. In the future if you do not want to pay that fee, check the Race website and most of them will have a flyer you can download, fill out and mail in with a check.

When you do a paper mail-in form, it is nice to send the Race Director an email letting him know.

There are several possible scenarios where your physical address does not match your billing address.  When that is the case, please use the Billing Address for registration, or print out and use the mail-in paper flyer for registration.
